Fatal Crash: Hudson Valley Man Strikes Guide Rail Head-On

A Hudson Valley man was killed, and a passenger was seriously injured, after losing control of his motorcycle and hitting a guard rail head-on.

The crash took place in Ulster County on Monday, July 10 on Samsonville Road and Hill Road in the town of Rochester. 

According to Trooper Steven Nevel, an investigation revealed that Marshall G. Barney, age 62, of Milton, was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a passenger on the back while he was traveling eastbound on Samsonville Road. 

While making a 90-degree turn at Hill Road, he lost control of the motorcycle and crossed over the double yellow line into westbound traffic, and struck a guide rail head-on. 

When troopers arrived Kerhonkson First Aid Squad was performing CPR on Barney, Nevel said. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His passenger, Claudine Unabia, age 30, of Gardinerwas treated by EMTs and transported to Westchester Medical Center via helicopter in serious condition.
